Quick answer: Telcos with lots of money are running fiber to the home.
Telcos with some money are runnng fiber to a neighborhood mux and trying to keep the copper part of the loop to 1000' or less.
Telcos with no money are running fiber to a mux and rolling the dice on 10 to 12000 feet of copper.
All telcos, I think, are dropping fiber off at cell sites as they pass by. Betting on ever-increasing need for backhaul bandwidth.
(just my view, from a poor telco...) |
