Does anyone know of any study, regulation, or standard that would prevent a technician from wearing a light (think Black Diamond, Petzel, etc.) on the outside of the hard hat? I am trying to research this so I can pose this to my safety team. Thank you.

There are lights and mounts made for hard hats. Do a google search for it and you should turn up plenty of examples.
One of the biggest problems would be how to keep it on the hard hat. It can not be attached in any way that would damage, weaken or modify the hard hat. Most standard hard hats are spherical shaped enough on top that it might cause a problem in keeping the light in place with just a elastic band. |

| In regards of the shape of the hard hat, I have found solutions. The company I work for uses hard hats made by Bullard, who also makes goggle clips that stick to your hard hat. I also found another company that makes a rubber strap that grips the hard hat. I just want to make sure I am not violating some regulation, standard or practice (outside of the company). We technicians need light sometimes while working aloft and all the solutions the company has offered are less than adequate (lights that clip to your shirt or jacket, or your glasses; spot lights from the truck. The new suggestion is a light that sits at the base of the pole a and is aimed up the pole (great, now I'll be blind by the tome I get up there!). |
