I dont know if you've had the chance to play with these yet..
Charles Industries makes an xdsl 'conditioner' that boosts the range of xdsl services. http://www.charlesindustries.com/main/adrenaline.html
We have installed a handful, and they do seem to work quite well.
Its nice to be able to service some customers with a min of 1.5M service, whereas before, the service was minimal ('lite service'), or even non-available.
As well as a boost in link speed, Ive noticed a drop in crc errors now. One (ahem) customer had a 'max' of ~4.2M with a service speed of 3M. The noise margin was acceptable, but lots of crc errors. Now with an adrenaline on the loop, the 'max has risen to 5.6 with a smaller but still acceptable noise margin for a 5M service. Strangely, the crc errors have nearly vanished. Seems to make for a 'snappier' dsl experience. (lack of crc retransmits ?)
I'm assuming this is due to the 'noise filtering' part of the adrenaline units.
Anyone else rolling these things out ? |

Dave,
Prior to my retirment in 2008 after 29 year in the industry I did deploy many of the Adrenaline units. In the mid 90s our base Internet offering was Elastic Networks Etherloop equipment. My main reason for starting with this product was it's ability to run farther and better over copper plant that in many cases was very old and in need of replacement. Well we all know what happened next to the product. Before conversion to the Telstart (in place for POTS service) ADSL platform I knew we would face issues on current longer loops that worked fine on Etherloop. I tested several different XDSL units; however at the end of the day felt the Adrenaline product was the best for us. The #1 key to deploy this product is proper placement of the unit, and a balanced pair. The biggest problem we faced was that I learned that many of our so called more "educated" techs had no clue what a balanced pair was all about. As much as our copper services offerings change, we need to keep Telephone 101 in the mix.
I am new to this forum so in closing I would like to say thanks to MPI for hosting, and to all of you for providing a wealth of informatiom.
Thanks

I currently have a aer800 by wide area networks on my line, and find it works pretty good. The biggest difference I see between it and the adreniline unit is the supply voltages. The repeater on my line uses a power supply to convert the 48 volt battery to 117 volts, the adreniline I think uses just the 48 volts on a power pair. The aer800 is small enough to fit inside of a six pair pole mount can, or a mag 6 or SCB 6 inch ped.

| The adrenaline units come in both separate power pair (-48v) and 'self powered' (from the circuit's pots supply). We tested a few of the separate power pair units (they call it Express power), but I cant see the advantage.. you have to then tag and maintain a record of this express power circuit etc. Much easier just to let em run from the pots. |

| Some situations don't allow running an Adrenaline off POTS power... such as a remote cabinet containing combo voice/dsl cards where there's not enough spare current. In that case the express power unit is needed. |
